Tell us we are wrong
This is the most important page on the site. A project that tags other people’s claims has to be the easiest project in the world to correct, or the tags are just decoration.
Three reasons people write in
Report an error
A wrong fact, a wrong date, a wrong tag, a broken link, or a book described unfairly. Include where it is, what is wrong, and a source we can reach if one exists. You do not need a source to report an error.
Suggest a question
The best suggestions are things you have actually argued about, phrased as a question rather than a topic, where a yes and a no would lead to different behaviour. Tell us what you have already read on it.
Permissions and rights
Reprints, translations, classroom use beyond attribution, or a rights holder concern about fair use. Say clearly that it is a rights matter and it goes to the top of the pile.
Send a message
One person reads these. Plain and specific beats long and polite.
Please do not send us this
Your personal financial details. Account numbers, balances, statements, screenshots of your holdings, or documents from your bank. There is nothing useful we could do with them and we do not want them.
A request for advice about your own money. We cannot answer it. Not out of caution, but because nobody who has not seen your income, your country, your obligations and your temperament is in a position to answer it. If money is urgent, look for a non-profit or government-backed debt advice service in your own country. Many are free, confidential, and selling nothing.
What happens next
- It gets read. Every message is read by a person.
- Corrections get checked against the sources policy, not against how much we would prefer to be right.
- The outcome gets published on the page where the error appeared, dated, with the original wording left visible. Corrections are published, not deleted.
- A personal reply is not guaranteed. This is a small project, and time spent replying is time not spent checking. Rights matters and factual corrections are answered first.
If you disagree with a tag rather than a fact, send that too. A wrong tag is arguably a worse error here than a wrong date, because the tag is what a reader carries away.
