Calgary: Fri Jul 17 evening – Tue Jul 21
Arriving late Friday, the Nepali Mela on Saturday, downtime with your cousin/aunt, and an optional Banff or Jasper day trip.
Must-see downtown Calgary (quick reference)
The classic downtown Calgary checklist, flat and easy, no hiking required for any of these. Ticket prices change often, treat these as ballpark figures and confirm on the linked site before you go.
| Landmark | Entry fee | Hours | When it's planned |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calgary Tower | ~$23 adult, ~$10 child (4 to 12), ~$21 senior | 10 am to 10 pm daily (summer) | Sat Jul 18, morning, or backup |
| Studio Bell / National Music Centre | $24.50 adult, $16.50 youth (4 to 12) | 10 am to 5 pm daily | Sat Jul 18, morning, or backup |
| Prince's Island Park & Eau Claire | Free | Open 24 hours (park grounds) | Sun Jul 19 or Mon Jul 20, optional |
| East Village & Riverwalk | Free to walk | Always open | Backup, if time allows |
| Peace Bridge | Free | Always open | Backup, if time allows |
| University of Calgary campus | Free to walk | Open grounds, most buildings close evenings | Optional, see below |
Our take: Prince's Island Park, East Village, and the Peace Bridge are free and easy to string together into one relaxed downtown walk. Of the two paid attractions, Studio Bell is the stronger pick for a family with teens (more hands-on, better value at $24.50), while the Calgary Tower is the better choice if a big skyline view matters more than the exhibits. Doing both in one day is realistic since they're a short walk apart.

Sat Jul 18: Nepali Mela + Downtown Calgary
The Nepali Mela, hosted by the Nepalese Community Society of Calgary, is on for Saturday, July 18, 2026, it's usually held at Prairie Winds Park. Worth confirming the exact venue and start time closer to the date via the Nepalese Community Society of Calgary's event page, since venues can shift year to year.

Sun Jul 19 & Mon Jul 20: Family Time + Optional Day Trip
Two days based at your cousin/aunt's. Since the group is done with hiking/nature for this trip, a Banff or Jasper day probably works best as a relaxed scenic drive/townsite visit rather than a trail day, or skip it in favour of more time together and a low-key downtown Calgary outing. Both are genuinely good options; here's what each looks like:
🏔️ Option A: Banff day trip
About 1.5–2 hours from Calgary. Without a car, book a seat on a shuttle/tour bus (e.g. Banff Airporter, Banff Jasper Collection, or a group day-tour operator) rather than relying on transit, since there's no direct public transit link from Calgary to Banff. In town: wander Banff Avenue's shops, grab lunch, ride the Banff Gondola (no hiking required) for the mountain views without a trail.
Calgary–Banff transport options🏙️ Option B: Stay in Calgary
Downtown Calgary at an easy pace: Studio Bell (National Music Centre), the Eau Claire/Prince's Island Park riverfront (flat paths, no real hiking), East Village, and a casual mall or two. Lower-key, more time with your cousin/aunt, no early shuttle departure.
If you do go to Banff or Jasper, book the shuttle a few days ahead, seats sell out in peak summer season.

Optional: a look at University of Calgary
If a quiet morning opens up, the University of Calgary campus is an easy, flat walk and worth a look, especially for Agrima and Ojashwi to get a feel for a Canadian university campus. It's reachable by CTrain (Red Line to University station) from downtown.
